“In The Land Of Summer” is a fictional piece written by Marzia Dessi. Created during the Youth Media Project’s Summer Intensive collaboration with the Santa Fe Art Institute. The radio poem follows the fate of Sunville, an infinite place of summer and sun and green grass and smiles and the infamous magican Mr. Summer. Marzia’s land of the summer can be seen as an allegory for growing up or the environmental degradation our world is experiencing.
Katherine MacDonald, from the New Mexico School For The Arts, wrote and recorded her song, “Why Can’t We,” during Youth Media Project’s summer intensive at the Santa Fe Arts Institute. In this catchy and melodic song, Katherine plays piano and sings and her lyrics bring up multiple questions about peace, harmony and social justice… so, why can’t we have these things?
