In this poignant piece, Inviolata from Tanzania shares with us her story of transnational living and how difficult it is to find “home” sometimes. She is a student at the United World College in Las Vegas, NM. Her story about growing up in multiple countries questions our notions of home, place, identity and nation. This piece was recorded at a Global Issues workshop at the UWC and aired on our Globalization show.
In this special Audio Revolution! broadcast, Youth Media Project teamed up with the spectacular SWAT Team at ATC. SWAT stands for the Student Wellness Action Team and is a program at Santa Fe Public Schools. This group from ATC (The Academy of Technology and the Classics) decided they wanted to better the lives of their peers by creating a powerful, moving and honest show about parent teen relationships. The show will share new perspectives and new truths about this important relationship and leave you contemplating your own familial life. Enjoy!
For the first Audio Revolution! Show of the Fall 2011 Season, the students of Youth Media Project’s (YMP) after-school Production Team created this broadcast that showcases the work done by YMP’s Summer Intensive. Teaming up with the Santa Fe Arts Institute and using the space of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design’s music studio and classrooms, YMP facilitated eight youth from Santa Fe and Albuquerque in learning the ins and outs of storytelling and audio production in two weeks. The culmination of these two weeks are aural narratives that were focused on the theme of dreams and showcased in this show! Hosts Ari Rappaport (also a Summer Intensive member) from the MASTERS program and Maheyo Tapp of ATC (the Academy for Technology and the Classics) guide listeners through these amazing stories. Enjoy!
Fathers in Focus is a special collaborative show that delivers the stories of youth experiencing homelessness and their experiences with their fathers. Fathers in Focus was a partnership of REEL FATHERS, Adelante Program/Santa Fe Public Schools, Youth Media Project, and Northern NM ENLACE that brought seven youth, ages 13 to 16, to share affecting stories and insights about their fathers. The students come from Ortiz middle school, Capital High School and Santa Fe High School.
This is a special 13 minute collage of all of their stories.
Global Leadership Forum brought together 30 youth leaders from 15 countries “to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.” Part of the GLF training (www.uwc-usa.org/glf) involved 6 international teams learning how to create broadcast-quality digital media. Here is the work of one team from Argentina, China, Japan, Tanzania, and the United States. The piece is entitled Time Travelers.
