Every summer, Global Leadership forum selects high school students from across the globe that work with Youth Media Project to develop an understanding of the power of storytelling as an agent for positive transformation in their own lives and in their larger communities. You will hear voices from all corners of the globe that challenge and transform modern global perspectives on topics such as family, education, and adversity. And as always, we bring you some local musical flavorings by Santa Fe based musician, Flamingo Pink. Hosted by YMP’s talented Tara Trudell, this is Audio Revolution! YMP Workshop SignOn this edition of Youth Media Project’s Audio Revolution!, we return to the Global Leadership Forum in Las Vegas, New Mexico to hear powerful stories directly from the summer program held at the United World College. Global Leadership Forum is a program that aims to cultivate culturally competent leaders and community builders devoted to positive change. In this rare opportunity, we hear personal stories and experiences from the youth of several different countries from around the world. These young men and women, participants and alumni of Global Leadership Forum, offer a glimpse through their multicultural lenses, which reveal unique and insightful views on a variety of personal, social and global issues.

Conflict

In this episode of Audio Revolution students explore the theme of conflict. The show features stories from all over the world thanks to Youth Media Project’s incredible partnership with the United World College. Students tackle the concept of conflict from the AIDS epidemic in Zimbabwe, to the Arab Spring uprisings to the culture shock of returning to one’s home country after studying abroad. We also hear updates on an initiative to make the Railyard more welcoming to teens as well as an interview with Amy Lashway, founder and director of a local mental health treatment center.

Facing Poverty Pt. 2

Photo by HowardLake, FlickrAs the second installment of Youth Media Project’s Facing Poverty Series, students explored international experiences of poverty alongside local experiences of poverty. Segments range from students at United World College to students at YouthWorks! about diverse topics such as drug addiction and poverty, differences between growing up poor in New and Old Mexico and much more. Hosts Max Kalyani and Sayra Olivares help listeners understand the complexities of each intense and profound personal story. Take a listen!

Jimmy’s Story

High school isn’t easy. Jimmy’s high school experience was especially difficult. Now a student at the United World College in Montezuma, NM, Jimmy went through years of being bullied. Jimmy’s story was part of a radio show put on by YMP and the Santa Fe High School’s Student Wellness Action Team that was created to illuminate the dangers of bullying to help reduce the terrible trend. Please lend your ears to this intensely raw story that details the horror of being bullied to put a stop to the violence.

What’s Going On . . . Now Radio Show

Youth Media Project is honored to have been invited to be a part of a national exploration of youth responding to Marvin Gaye’s famous album What’s Going On. While looking into themes such as war and poverty, our youth will be answering the pivotal question: what’s going on now?

Hosted by none other than the marvelous Yesenia Diaz and Fernando Palacios of Capital High School, this first segment explores issues of immigration, gay rights, family, domestic violence and 2012 consciousness.

This second segment explores issues of environmental justice, the 2012 Presidential campaigns, education, poverty and addiction.

SWAT Bullying Show

Youth Media Project and SWAT members from Santa Fe High and Capshaw Middle School have come together to produce an Audio Revolution! show focusing on bullying. The show features personal narratives from students experiencing bullying, an interview with a bullying specialist, a radio drama about cyberbullying and much more!
